New York, NY (November 27, 2000) – Tucows Inc., a leading distributor of e-business services and applications on the Internet, announced today that it has reached an agreement with the government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines to operate its country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) registry. Tucows will use its own OpenXRS (Open Extensible Registry System) solution, a unique set of management tools which allows registry operators to easily and effectively interface with thousands of resellers and manage millions of names and transactions. Tucows will also leverage its channel of over 4,000 Managed Service Providers (MSPs) in over 100 countries who offer domain names registration services to their customers through Tucows OpenSRS (Open Shared Registry System), the first and most widely used wholesale domain name registration service in the world.

With this agreement, citizens of St. Vincent and the Grenadines will, for the first time, be able to register domain names in their own ccTLD. Perhaps more importantly, the Government believes that the sale of .vc names to the rest of the world will bring this small nation a powerful new incremental revenue stream to fund a broad range of public projects. Services will be available during Q1 2001.

This vote of confidence from the St. Vincent and the Grenadines government represents the second big win for Tucows in recent weeks. On November 17, The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) approved an application for a new dot-info gTLD that included Tucows OpenXRS as its back-end registry solution.

“We are excited to help bring a tremendous growth and revenue opportunity to the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines” said Elliot Noss CEO of Tucows. “We are also excited to demonstrate our unique capabilities as a domain name registry operator to ICANN and the entire world.”
