MDU Lead, OSP Engineering - Ting Internet

Brief job description:

Responsible for providing engineering leadership and guidance around the implementation of telecom services for Multi-Dwelling Units (MDU’s) across the organization. Build, improve, and implement processes to ensure quick and reliable service delivery aligned with company initiatives and expectations. Ensure a high degree of cross-functional communication within the organization.

Major duties and responsibilities:

  • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and improve the customer experience
  • Lead all aspects of external contractors to ensure timelines are met, and deliverables and expectations are in line with company standards
  • Review and complete field surveys to contribute to MDU solutions that meets applicable requirements
  • Establish goals and objectives that drive process improvement, consistency, and cost efficient MDU designs
  • Assist in preparation of project cost estimations including ISP, OSP, and equipment
  • Establish and maintain Permitting SOPs where applicable
  • Work with the standards team to build and maintain MDU Engineering Guidelines for the organization
  • Evaluate new OSP/ISP products and designs for possible implementation
  • Establish and ensure a quality records management process
  • Evaluate and collaborate with management regarding strategic planning of MDUs, and new product development and deployment
  • Ensure adherence to company safety standards
  • Ensures field compliance with corporate engineering standards, policies and procedures
  • Review, forecast, and manage capital and operational expenditures to ensure accountability to cost targets and goals
  • Identify engineering and deployment opportunities to inspire change and initiate ideas
  • Ensure timelines are met, projects stay on budget, and high quality standards are deployed
  • Creation and oversight of the change management approval process
  • Perform other duties as requested

Required qualifications:

  • Strong Outside Plant skills, abilities, and MDU specific knowledge
  • Ability to communicate with employees, customers, suppliers, in person, on video conference, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straight-forward, and professional manner
  • Knowledge of telecom products and services
  • Advanced knowledge of Service Provider FTTH engineering and construction practices
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and tasks
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure
  • Ability to supervise and motivate others
  • Ability to use a personal computer and software applications
  • Knowledge of Digital Transmission, Electronic theory and Fiber Optic theory
  • Knowledge of National Electric Code and National Electric Safety Code
  • Organizational and strategic agility


  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field, or equivalent experience preferred
  • SCTE/BCTE certification or equivalent preferred
  • Industry and vendor specific certifications and training

Related experience:

  • 6+ years engineering OSP/ISP/MDU telecom experience
  • 5+ years demonstrated experience with project management
  • 5+ years demonstrated outstanding leadership skills
