Why use BackupMyBlog?
What if the server or database that hosted your blog crashed or your webhost suddenly shut its doors? Could you easily recover your posts and comments?
The BackupMyBlog client is a PHP script that resides on your blog server. The client responds to requests from the BackupMyBlog backup servers to return information in and about your blog database.
We have designed the backup process with your security and privacy in mind. First, the client does not and cannot change any information in your database. Second, the database username and password are stored locally and are not transmitted or even known by our backup servers. Third, each backup session is secured with a large random session key that the client uses to validate that the request comes from a BackupMyBlog backup server.
When your blog backup starts our backup servers use the PHP client script on your machine to get the layout and contents of your blog database. Once the backup is complete that information is archived and then stored on two different backup servers. Remember, each backup is secured by a large session key that the client uses to ensure that it is talking only to the BackupMyBlog backup servers.
To restore from a previous backup all you need to do is login to BackupMyBlog and select the backup you want to restore from in the Manage Account tab. There are two ways to perform the restore. The first and recommend way uses an interactive PHP script that you download to your blog server and run. The second way is to download a raw SQL file containing the statements needed to recreate and restore the data.
